Clarifying Ripley: Gisela Leibold

A recent Ripley’s newspaper comic panel described Gisela Leibold, a patient in Munich who is seemingly incapable of perceiving moving objects, instead “recording” with her eyes only still images. A Howard Hughes Medical Institute article describes this “blindness to motion” as the result of a stroke that damaged specific areas of her brain. A Milwaukee Journal Sentinel article describes the link between Alzheimers and this variety of motion blindness. For further exploration into this subject, consider investigating Akinetopsia.
