One thing that has amazed me the most about the science vs. creationism debate is how easily purportedly science-minded stand-takers will be suckered into falling for their own accusation — right there in plain view. It should be acknowledged, that, while there is at the same time Creationist amateurs who have no idea what they’re talking about but just want to one-up someone, there exists the identical personality on the non-creationist branch. And, the presumption that all Christians are creationists is just as un-thought-out as science presumes creationism itself to be. But anyway.
This idea of science (being, people who argue for natural origins rather than supernatural, in this context) stand-takers being foiled by their own argument was illustrated quite perfectly with the inevitable deluge of unresearchedness that is often the BoingBoing comments, notably under this article.
The article shows a video of Ray Comfort, during a segment of his Way of the Master TV series, demonstrating how a banana is the atheist’s nightmare — being that it was “created” with so many ease-of-use properties. What Ray failed to look up was that the banana in general has been cultivated by mankind to create those properties, whereas natural, non-cultivated bananas are about the size of a finger and remarkably less awesome.
So what naturally occurs is the pristine moment of the anti-religious being total paradox-tards, paraphrased, “A ha! This video represents a total lack of research on behalf of one creationist, therefore making all creationists a complete sack of flaming poo! I shall not bother to research whether the statement has been retracted, though!” or, “I will ridicule you for your overt use of emotional ploys and failure to examine things with a rational format, but I will respond in a completely unresearched, emotional reaction! Take that!”
The statement HAD actually been retracted (partial transcript), therefore making all those who had called such apologist proponents as being unresearched poopy heads therefore be quite the poopy heads themselves for not having been bothered to look up to see whether the point had already conceded to begin with. Well done, self-appointed representatives of science!
